User Review The Dish DVR Network Duo VIP 722 Receiver

The 2008 winner of the Cnet Editor’s Choice award, the Dish DVR Network, DuoDVR VIP 722 is without a doubt the most versatile DVR systems available.

Dish Network’s quality featured DuoDVR Receiver is incomparable for those with children who have more than one TVs because this model takes care of both HD programming and standard definition programming (SD). In the case of owning 2 types of TV sets, the other choice would be to get two separate receivers.

My family upgraded from the Dish DVR Network 622 receiver, which was very much the same as to VIP 722 System with the exception of the physical differences and that the VIP 622 had less storage allowance. Other than that, I really can’t see much difference.

With that being said, the benefits of these 2 models are huge. The ability to have a couple types of TVs (HD and SD) was really a major deal maker. Also the idea that you can record on 2 different TVs without the financial burden of paying for an additional system helps me save money each month and I don’t have to keep clean another piece of equipment!

The one thing I didn’t like so well is that we couldn’t enjoy one television show as we were recording another on the same TV. The fix was simple, we just record from the second TV after we’ve programmed what we want to record into our primary. With that being said, it’s not really that big of a deal.

I’m not into gadgets so, for me, the menu may have been intimidating at first. Even on that note, I don’t know if it’s the fact that I’m not a techie or simply the idea that I felt smothered. That was with the 622 receiver. I’ve aced it since then. My brother had no problem at all with the DVR’s menu.

Probably the main thing I love on top of anything is the flexibility to skip ahead 30-seconds on pesky commercials. I’d dare say someone has a pretty correct number out there, but to me it seems that a 60-minute show has about 35 minutes of annoying commercials that I avoid as often as possible. By being able to fast-forward the infuriating commercial is a huge bonus. Just the benefit that we can pause and playback was enough for me to choose the 622 model, still a feature in the Dish DVR Network VIP 722. I am sure I use that one feature (& the two different types of TV benefit) above anything else on the entire DVR.

My son really likes the picture in picture. He can keep up with the game he’s watching and another of his other shows at the same time. Actually I don’t know how he does that, but he does.

The recording capability on the VIP 722 is extremely generous too. We are able to record 55 hours on the HD TV while in another room we can enjoy up to 350 hours of recordings. As a wrap-up, I’m very happy with the VIP 722 and, after using both DirecTV and Comcast, the customer service I get from DISH Network is head and shoulders over the other two.
