Today’s fishing rods have new features that are not normally part of the more primitive cane pole. Modern fishing rods contain reels, which aid in the retrieval captured fish on the bait. A much-sophisticated feature is the spinning rod where the entire shaft the whole shaft of the rod except the handle is capable of moving on it’s axis to allow flexibility when fish caught on snare bait causing it to struggle. Like the classic cane fishing rods, today’s rod has a thick handle and gets more tapered and flexible near the top.

This design [allows handling stability] and flexibility of the length of the pole’s shaft. A typical fishing rod will measure anywhere from two to five meters (2 to 5 m) and have various ranges in capability to tolerate strain when fishing. The length of the pole has much to do with withstanding force put on by the fish with the pole and determines for the most part the performance for the rod.

Can poles, are considered the smallest and less sophisticated fishing equipment. Normally, it is built from bamboo or other flexible wood material with a fly line attached to it. Unlike other modern rods cane poles don’t normally are reeled or its equivalent that can be used to reel in or retrieving fish captured on your hook. This action is called angling

Spinning rods are very popular now and may be used for either heavy or light fish although they were proven best for trout, walleye and bass fish. Their measurements differ from 5 to 7 feet (1.5 to 2.5 m). Spinning poles are commonly used in bass competitions accounting for their flexibility and high stress tolerance. They accommodate bigger and heavier fly lines and keep them stable to avoid tangling as the line uncoils.

Jigging rods are good with heavy lures when you get to around 180 to 200 feet below the water. Their construction consists of solid, reliable material that attributes the amount they weigh. The use of jigging rods is specifically due to the currents that alternate during the fishing session. Many oceans will have an unpredictable undersea current which is why the lines should be kept in place. Fishing lures can also be disturbed and cause fish to become confused if lines are too short or have enough weight to stand up to and deal with water currents below the sea. These rods are best for fish that reside near the bottom at the ocean floor, halibut and cod are good examples of these.
